HelpAge Cambodia, in collaboration with representatives from several state institutions as well as members of the elderly population, will mark World Health Day on April 7, with the goal of encouraging the government to provide increased healthcare to the eldest members of society.

HelpAge Cambodia executive director Tum Vira said World Health Day will be jointly organised with the participation of the World Health Organisation (WHO), National Social Protection Council (NSPC) and representation of the elderly population.

He added that this year’s theme is “Good health for all ages” and that physical and online activities are planned.

“We want to connect our celebrations with the health problems of older people, so that all stakeholders – especially local authorities and the government – are aware of the challenges they face. Older people often suffer from many health problems, therefore, we want to take this opportunity to voice their concerns,” said Vira.

The 2022 World Health Day was celebrated under the theme “Our Earth, Our Health”, with the WHO highlighting the urgent global action that is needed to save the planet and the well-being of all people.

WHO stated that it created World Health Day in 1948. It is celebrated on April 7 every year.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has often appealed to the public to take care of their health, and called on the younger generation of Cambodians to care for their parents, grandparents and older members of the community.
