Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron noted the pivotal role of investing in and empowering young individuals, allowing them opportunities to unlock their full potential for active participation in society’s diverse development areas.
He shared these insights at the opening ceremony of the ninth global youth camp, themed “Youth Develop under the Roof of Peace,” held in Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap province on December 12.
An initiative of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, this year’s global youth camp, with over 200 participants, runs December 11–16.
During the event, Chuon Naron, symbolising unity, ignited a torch—an emblem with profound significance for all camp participants.
The camp’s social media update on December 13 described the torch lighting as a symbol of youth unifying their strength, progressing resolutely and energetically across generations. Their commitment and readiness to contribute to social development were underscored, marking a narrative of youth moving forward with purpose and responsibility.
Chuon Naron said that the torch symbolises hope, trust and a belief shared by leaders at all levels within the government. This signifies their collective confidence in the upcoming generation, fostering a spirit of intergenerational cooperation.
“Providing young people with the right opportunities enables them to develop their potential across all societal realms. This paves the way for them to emerge as future national leaders, aligning with Cambodia’s vision for 2030 and 2050,” he said.
He also praised the working groups for their efforts in coordinating the event to highlight youth participation in social development.
After the camp’s opening, volunteers and delegates attended presentations by local authorities and visited communities in Banteay Srei district to understand local lives and occupations.
Last year’s camp, themed “Youth Development in Digital Society: Star Rise in the North,” addressed digital skills through an inter-ministerial commission led by the education ministry. Aligned with the Cambodian Digital Government Policy 2022–2035, it aimed at capacity building and youth training.
