Yum: Macau is one of the richest ‘regions’ in the world

On the auspicious occasion of the 20th anniversary of the return of Macau to the China motherland, on behalf of the China Hong Kong and Macao Expatriate and Business Association of Cambodia, I would like to send a congratulatory message, expressing my best wishes for the wonderful Macau and the prosperous motherland!

Macau’s return to the motherland is a great achievement for the history of the Chinese nation.

Since December 20, 1999, Macau has embarked on a road of synchronized development with the motherland. In the past two decades, the principles of “one country, two systems”, “Macau people governing Macau” and a high degree of autonomy have been fully implemented in Macau.

With the strong support of the central government and the joint efforts of the Macau SAR Government and all sectors of society, Macau has achieved remarkable development, social stability and economic prosperity, with its residents living and working in peace and contentment and multiculture being well developed, becoming a successful model of “one country, two systems” practice.

Over the past 20 years, Macau has been closely connected with the motherland.

With the strong support of the central government, it has made remarkable progress in various fields such as people’s livelihood and economy.

Macau’s GDP increased from $6.5 billion in 1999 to $54.54 billion in 2018, an increase of nearly 7.5 times; per capita GDP rising from $5,200 in 1999 to $82,600 in 2018, registering number one in Asia and number two in the world, becoming one of the “richest” regions in the world.

At the same time, promoting the sustainable development of the economy and using the development results to improve people’s livelihood has also become a core concept of the successful practice of the “one country, two systems” with Macau characteristics.

Looking into the future, with the implementation of the strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, Macau will embrace new opportunities.

We believe that Macau, the beautiful lotus flower of the motherland, would bloom with even more gorgeous and charming colours.

The wonderful chapter of the times, which is being created by Macau, would also leave its mark on the monument of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
