The Cambodian Premier League’s roster for the 2023-2024 season gains fresh faces, as Prey Veng Football Club and ISI Dangkor Senchey FC secure their candidacies. Both teams have successfully met the rigorous requirements for a national club license, enabling their ascension from the ranks.
On June 18, Satoshi Saito, the Cambodian Premier League’s executive director, warmly welcomed the two teams. Alongside stalwarts like Phnom Penh Crown and Visakha Football Club, the newcomers stand ready for the challenge, weaving a richer tapestry of competition.
The newly minted members won their places after fully satisfying the league’s stringent five-point criteria. Spanning administrative, financial, and legal aspects, as well as infrastructure and income-expenditure assessments, these conditions underscore the league’s commitment to maintaining a high standard of competition.
In contrast, EDC Club Premium, the second league champions of 2022, will not be joining the top tier this season. They fell short of meeting the comprehensive licensing criteria, a testament to the demanding nature of Cambodian Premier League’s reforms.
In a June 17 Facebook post following their licensing success, Prey Veng FC expressed excitement as they eagerly await their league debut, stating, “We are ready. We will meet with the Cambodian Premier League 2023-2024 soon”.
Meanwhile, ISI Dangkor Senchey FC is strengthening their line-up, announcing seven new signings in preparation for the upcoming season.
“Although the ISI had just come, I was ready to step forward well. Therefore, I vowed to strive to play well, including training and the competition to help the club develop itself to move forward with common goal,” voiced ISI Dangkor Senchey goalkeeper, Kong Chanvuthy.
“This was the first time for me I had set out to play at the league abroad. It means that my dream had come true. Even though I wasn’t yet aware of the situation of the competition in the top Cambodian league well, I will put my heart and soul into the group one hundred per cent and try hard to do what as much as I can,” shared ISI Dangkor Senchey’s latest signing, Timor-Leste international midfielder Jhon Frith Ornai Liu de Olivera.
