The Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) began meeting again after suspending proceedings for two weeks while the National and Paralympic Games were taking place. The committee is tasked with preparations for the 32nd SEA Games, which will be hosted by Cambodia in 2023.
CAMSOC secretary-general Vath Chamroeun, who led the meeting on behalf of CAMSOC permanent vice-president Thong Khon, said after the meeting that they had met with the chairs of their expert sub-committees to facilitate and review their work and set their working direction as well as update them with any new information they’ll need.
“We stressed two important points. The first one is related to the administrative work and the discipline and responsibilities of human resource management and equipment management, so each expert committee will begin gathering at the Joint Command Operations Centre in January. We’ve set up a joint command staff at the same location to coordinate and they can sit down to work together,” he said.
As for the second point, Chamroeun said that they had reviewed what they needed to do, what they shouldn’t do and what must be done next related to their core important tasks.
“The core tasks, we have prepared each expert committee to know their roles, duties and responsibilities, so each committee needs to be ready ahead of the 100-day countdown to our SEA Games, which will begin on January 25, 2023,” said Chamroeun.
After 100-day countdown to Cambodia’s hosting the 2023 SEA Games and Paralympic Games begins, CAMSOC will also hold a meeting with each participating country’s mission director to go over necessary planning details.
Chamroeun said that being prepared in advance of those meetings was important in order to convince the representatives from those countries that Cambodia is ready to successfully host the event and to give them confidence that their athletes and officials in their delegations will have a good experience competing in the Kingdom.
“We have to show that we are ready in every way, meaning that we have already prepared everything and we are now just waiting for our guests. So we plan to have most aspects of the event ready 100 days ahead of time.
“We have all been working together in a sincere effort – on behalf of the government and for the Council of Southeast Asia Games – to bring honour to our nation as a whole,” Chamroeun said.
