The Ministry of Interior’s Sports Council held a February 3 meeting to discuss plans to send athletes to the 20th World Police and Fire Games 2023 in Winnipeg, Canada. The Kingdom will compete in 13 events.

Chairing the meeting, Major General Yit Phirak, secretary-general of the council, said the men and women who were up for selection would first need to qualify.

He added that qualifying events were designed to determine the competitors that were most likely to bring home medals, as a successful games campaign would raise the Kingdom’s profile on the international stage.

He encouraged all of the coaching and managerial teams involved to pay close attention to the selection process.

The 20th World Police and Fire Games 2023 are scheduled to run from July 28 to August 6.

The interior ministry’s athletes will compete in badminton, bodybuilding, dragon boat racing, jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, swimming, table tennis, triathlon, indoor volleyball, sand beach volleyball, arm-wrestling, and wrestling.

During the 19th World Police and Fire Games 2022, held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Cambodia claimed a total of 33 medals, including 15 gold medals, 8 and 10 bronze.
