Cambodia's national football team – the Kouprey – clinched a decisive 4-0 victory over Macau at the National Olympic Stadium on September 11, setting a new record for their previous encounters and drawing high praise from the country’s leadership.
Having faced Macau six times since 2008, with four wins, one draw and one loss, the Kouprey put on an exceptional performance in the latest match. Wearing jersey number 9, Sieng Chanthea, a young striker who recently joined Qatari second league club Al Shahaniya, stole the spotlight by scoring two goals within just three minutes.
“Our aim is continuous improvement for each athlete. This friendly match serves to boost our team’s progress and confidence, allowing us to compete on equal terms,” said head coach Felix Dalmas.
The win has triggered widespread celebrations among Cambodian fans and has been met with congratulatory remarks from key leaders. Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet were among those who commended the team’s performance.
“Congratulations and highest respects to the Cambodian football team for their 4-0 win. May their success continue,” said Manet.
