The Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) and relevant parties called an emergency meeting to inspect the progress of work and further discuss the preparation of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 3rd national sporting tournament and first Paralympic Games, scheduled to take place on November 21-30 at the Morodok Techo National Stadium.
The meeting was held in the presence of Minister of Tourism and CAMSOC permanent vice-president Thong Khon. Also in attendance were his deputies as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the Phnom Penh Municipal Hall and the Management Department of the Morodok Techo National Stadium. The meeting aimed to inspect the progress of work and ensure that the opening and closing ceremonies would be successful, as they will provide valuable the experience ahead of hosting the 2023 SEA Games and Paralympic Games.
“We want to make certain that the opening and closing ceremonies and the 3rd national sporting tournament and first Paralympic Games go smoothly and safely. The opening ceremony will be held in the presence of the Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife Bun Rany, so we must be certain that we are well prepared,” CAMSOC secretary-general Vath Chamroeun said after the November 14 meeting.
He added that an estimated 40,000 students and members of the public will attend the event. Each specialised commission under CAMSOC is making preparations to make sure that the spectators could enter and exit safely and orderly, with no issues arising.
“The preparations for the opening and closing ceremonies have been meticulous. We have seen the plans for the lighting and decorations, and the training of all participants is of high standards. We are certain that the event will be spectacular and unique – and safe,” he said.
The opening and closing ceremonies will feature a fireworks display and artistic performances by nearly 2,000 people.
“The performances will feature the participation of nearly 2,000 people from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces [RCAF], notably, many of them from the Bodyguard Unit. Over 1,000 members of the unit will conduct sporting performances and perform Bokator displays. They have also been trained to perform traditional dances. Preparations have been carried out mindfully and responsibly,” added Chamroeun.
