General Motors and United Auto Trading Co., Ltd. (UAT) have signed an agreement that enables UAT to assemble DKD Chevrolet vehicles in Cambodia at UAT’s new assembly plant. This marks a new chapter in UAT’s investment and manufacturing in Cambodia.
The signing ceremony for the exclusive assembly rights took place at the Chevrolet showroom on August 1, between Mr. Norm Hav, Managing Director of THG, and Mr. Hector Villarreal, President and Managing Director of GM Asia Pacific.
The event was also attended by Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Cambodia, along with several distinguished guests and business partners.
The agreement paves the way for UAT to build a state-of-the-art automotive facility that will serve as a key hub for future operations, assembly and distribution activities for UAT in the region.
Villarreal expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration.
“This partnership with United Auto Trading is a significant milestone for General Motors in Southeast Asia. Cambodia offers a unique advantage with its strategic location, skilled workforce and growing industrial infrastructure and we look forward to supporting UAT as they grow the automotive capability of Cambodia,” he said.
Echoing that sentiment, Hav stated: “Our years of dedication and commitment have earned the trust of General Motors. We are proud to be licensed to build world-leading Chevrolet products at our facility. This project not only reflects our shared commitment to quality and excellence but also contributes to Cambodia’s economic development and industrial growth. Recognising the steady growth of Cambodia’s national economy year after year, along with the Royal Government’s vision for 2030 which focuses on sustainable economic development and attracting foreign investment.”
TH Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has placed strong confidence in investing in Cambodia’s automotive industry. This investment, totaling $19 million, is dedicated to operating an automotive assembly plant capable of producing between 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles per year.
“In addition to this production capacity, the factory of TH Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. also provides employment opportunities for between 500 to 1,000 Cambodian workers. This initiative plays a part in contributing to the country’s economic development and reducing the unemployment rate in Cambodia,” added Hav.
The UAT facility will focus on assembling key Chevrolet models tailored for local and regional market with an emphasis on quality, safety and sustainability. The collaboration is expected to create new job opportunities, enhance local capabilities and position Cambodia as a competitive player in the global automotive supply chain.
