Singapore’s ambassador to Cambodia, Pang Chee Wee, has expressed his nation’s interest in increasing its purchases of agricultural products from Cambodia. He suggested that Singapore could increase orders of fruit and vegetables, in addition to the rice it already imports.
Cambodian exports to Singapore amounted to just under $24 million during the first four months of 2026.
The ambassador raised the possibility during a May 15 meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn.
Sokhonn highlighted the strong diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries. He also noted that air connectivity between Cambodia and Singapore has continued to increase, with 42 flights operating per week. This increase is expected to support business activities, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
Both parties also welcomed the April signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on food security cooperation between Cambodia and Singapore, which is expected to promote agricultural exports to Singapore.
According to the General Department of Customs and Excise, trade between Cambodia and Singapore during the first four months of 2026 reached a total value of $775.54 million, an increase of 220.8% compared to the same period in 2025. Exports to Singapore totalled $23.89 million, up 30%, while imports reached $751.64 million, up 236.5%.
Sun Chanthol, first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met with the ambassador last week, and informed him of the success of Singaporean investments in Cambodia.
He requested that the ambassador encourage more Singaporean investors to invest in Cambodia, particularly in the halal food processing industry, which has strong potential for both regional and global markets.
“I believe that cooperation between Cambodia and Singapore will continue to grow to a higher level, especially in the areas of trade, investment and infrastructure connectivity. Progress in these sectors brings significant economic benefits to both nations and contributes to stability and prosperity across the region,” he said.
